SOLO

Martin Pyne performs solo live sets on vibraphone and electronics, creating a mesmerisingly rich sound world. He was recently a guest on Resonance FM, performing and talking to presenter Carole Chant. Listen to the programme here. There's a video of him playing solo at the Tuesdays Post night in London on the HOME page. He has just recorded a solo vibraphone album BEHIND THE MIST , which will be releases 1/3/2017. Here's a track from it:

Details of how to listen and buy the whole album are on the ALBUMS page.

Martin has also recorded two solo electronica albums: Long Voyage Home and 7 Pictures, both of which feature a number of guests including Loose Tubes' Dai Pritchard, British jazz legend Stan Sulzmann and vocalist Joseph Aquilina. Jazzwise Magazine described the music as "organic, engaging jazztronica" and music from 7 Pictures was recently featured on Stuart Maconie's Freak Zone on BBC Radio 6 Music. Check out an example here featuring contributions from Stan Sulzmann and Dai Pritchard.

BANDS

BUSNOYS

Busnoys is a three-piece band comprising Martin Pyne on vibes and electronics, Jeff Spencer on bass, and Trevor Davies on drums. Their music, composed by Martin, is highly evocative and much of it has a strongly cinematic flavour. The influences it draws on include jazz, electronica, Americana and the avant-garde. The trio, which has been featured several times on BBC Radio 3's Late Junction, has three albums out - Check out the ALBUMS page for details of how to listen and buy. You can also hear a wide range of their music on soundcloud.

"Busnoys offer an intelligent, imaginative combination of vibes, bass guitar and drums. Recalling Gary Burtons sixties group with Steve Swallow, this is a genuintely contemporary record that should appeal to new as well as established jazz fans."

"The beautiful sound of Busnoys."

KEPLER ORBIT

KEPLER ORBIT is an improvising trio featuring Martin on Vibraphone and electronic percussion, Tom Ward on bass clarinet, alongside guitarist Ed Riches. The trio got together in 2016 after first playing together at a LUME Hat Speaks improv night. They already have a string of gigs lined up, and hope to record soon.

STEPHEN GREW / MARTIN PYNE DUO

Martin got together with the noted piano improviser Stephen Grew in summer 2016 for the first time. (No mean feat as they live at opposite ends of the country!). The results really excited both of them. They've recently recorded some music, which will be issued in due course, and hope to be getting gigs soon.

DANGEROUS KITCHEN

Dangerous Kitchen is an improvising trio featuring Martin with fellow percussionist and instrument maker Simon Allen, alongside British jazz legend saxophonist Stan Sulzmann. Check out a track from their album here, and see how to buy on the ALBUMS page:

OTHER COLLABORATIONS

Martin works regularly accompanying Silent Film, most often as part of Paul Robinson's Harmonie Band, and in collaboration with pianist Stephen Horne. They now have a large repertoire of films for which they have made scores. You can hear a recording of them accompanying the Expressionist classic FROM MORNING TO MIDNIGHT live at London's Barbican Centre here :

 CONTEMPORARY DANCE

For many years a big part of Martin's work has been in the Contemporary Dance World. As well as playing class for many noted teachers and companies, he has ongoing collaborations with choreographers Sheron Wray and Zamira Kate Mummery . Check out this trailer featuring some of his work here:

VISUAL ART

Martin has an ongoing collaboration with artist Maria Hayes. Maria has frequently appeared live with Martin, solo, and with Dangerous Kitchen and Busnoys, producing live real time responses to the music, sometimes on paper, sometimes using digital media. She has also produced a set of original art works for the solo electronica album "7 Pictures".

She is making a series of animated drawings to accompany the music from "Behind The Mist" that will be issued as they appear.
