An improvising trio featuring:

Alex Maguire - piano/Hammond organ

Martin Pyne - vibes/drums/percussion

Mark Hewins - guitar/electronics

This is a brand new improv trio, producing a rich musical language drawing on jazz, classical, electronica and more. By turns lyrical, humorous, gritty, and sublimely beautiful. We have an album in the can, so watch this space for release news, and we are on the look out for gigs so please get in touch. Here are a couple tracks with videos made by Mark.

For sometime now Martin has been working with the brilliant jazz singer Laura Zakian, writing music to go with her lyrics. This is a  real showcase for Martin's lyrical melodic gift. This project is now going public with the first selection of these songs being released on a brand new EP, "MINOR MOMENTS" a set of songs where Laura's lyrics look at passing through depression, and coming out the other side. Featuring Laura and her superlative band of pianist Steve Lodder, drummer Nic France, Simon Thorpe on the bass and saxophonist Paul Bartholomew. There's a launch gig on May 12th in London - check the GIGS page for details

Martin Pyne performs solo live sets on vibraphone and electronics, creating a mesmerisingly rich sound world. He was recently a guest on Resonance FM, performing and talking to presenter Carole Chant. Listen to the programme here. There's a video of him playing solo at the Tuesdays Post night in London on the HOME page. He has just recorded a solo vibraphone album BEHIND THE MIST , which will be releases 1/3/2017. Here's a track from it:

Details of how to listen and buy the whole album are on the ALBUMS page.

And here's a video of a vibes and electronics set from a little while back:

Martin has also recorded two solo electronica albums: Long Voyage Home and 7 Pictures, both of which feature a number of guests including Loose Tubes' Dai Pritchard, British jazz legend Stan Sulzmann and vocalist Joseph Aquilina. Jazzwise Magazine described the music as "organic, engaging jazztronica" and music from 7 Pictures was recently featured on Stuart Maconie's Freak Zone on BBC Radio 6 Music. Check out an example here featuring contributions from Stan Sulzmann and Dai Pritchard.

Busnoys is a three-piece band comprising Martin Pyne on vibes and electronics, Jeff Spencer on bass, and Trevor Davies on drums. Their music, composed by Martin, is highly evocative and much of it has a strongly cinematic flavour. The influences it draws on include jazz, electronica, Americana and the avant-garde. The trio, which has been featured several times on BBC Radio 3's Late Junction, has three albums out - Check out the ALBUMS page for details of how to listen and buy. You can also hear a wide range of their music on soundcloud.

" gorgeous and inventive...a masterclass in the creation of atmospheric musical imagery."  Bruce Lindsay : All About Jazz

"Busnoys offer an intelligent, imaginative combination of vibes, bass guitar and drums. Recalling Gary Burtons sixties group with Steve Swallow, this is a genuintely contemporary record that should appeal to new as well as established jazz fans."

JAZZ UK reviewing Busnoys' debut album on Tallguy Records, San Angelo.

"The beautiful sound of Busnoys."

KEPLER ORBIT is an improvising trio featuring Martin on Vibraphone and electronic percussion, Tom Ward on bass clarinet, alongside guitarist Ed Riches. The trio got together in 2016 after first playing together at a LUME Hat Speaks improv night. They already have a string of gigs lined up, and hope to record soon.

Martin got together with the noted piano improviser Stephen Grew in summer 2016 for the first time. (No mean feat as they live at opposite ends of the country!). The results really excited both of them. They've recently recorded some music, which will be issued in due course, and hope to be getting gigs soon.

Check out their album below:

Dangerous Kitchen is an improvising trio featuring Martin with fellow percussionist and instrument maker Simon Allen, alongside British jazz legend saxophonist Stan Sulzmann. Check out their album here:

Martin works regularly accompanying Silent Film, most often in collaboration with pianist Stephen Horne, performing many times at London's Barbican Centre, and around Europe and the USA. They now have a large repertoire of films for which they have made scores. Most recently they premiered a brand new score for METROPOLIS at the Turner Sims Hall in Southampton. You can hear a recording of them accompanying the Expressionist classic FROM MORNING TO MIDNIGHT live at London's Barbican Centre here :

For many years a big part of Martin's work has been in the Contemporary Dance World. As well as playing class for many noted teachers and companies, he has ongoing collaborations with choreographers Sheron Wray and Zamira Kate Mummery . At present he is working on a solo percussion score to accompany Mikaela Polley's choreography for Images Ballet Co, touring in summer 2019.

Martin has an ongoing collaboration with artist Maria Hayes. Maria has frequently appeared live with Martin, solo, and with Dangerous Kitchen and Busnoys, producing live real time responses to the music, sometimes on paper, sometimes using digital media. She has also produced a set of original art works for the solo electronica album "7 Pictures".

She is making a series of animated drawings to accompany the music from "Behind The Mist" one of which you can see on the HOME page and there is another one here:
